What remains when a person dies?
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“When a person dies, all his deeds come to an end except for three: (1) ongoing charity, (2) beneficial knowledge, and (3) righteous children who pray.” (Muslim: 1631)
These three things continue to be a source of reward for a person even after death. Let us understand them in detail.
1. Ongoing charity—a good deed that continues
Ongoing charity is a good deed that continues to benefit and is rewarded equally even after death. Ordinary charity is temporary, but ongoing charity continues forever.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“The best charity is that which continues for a long time.” (Bukhari: 5351)

✅ Installing a well or water tap
✅ Publishing and distributing the Holy Quran

As long as all these works continue to benefit people, the reward for them will continue to be received by the giver of charity, even if he is not in this world.
