Light Creatures: Angels are created from light, as stated in the Hadith:

“Angels were created from light, jinn from a flame of fire, and Adam (man) from clay.” (Sahih Muslim)

Subject to Allah’s command: Angels are subject to Allah’s command and never disobey. The Quran states:

“They do not disobey Allah’s command, but they do what they are commanded.” (At-Tahrim: 6)

Unseen Creatures: Angels are not visible to humans under normal circumstances, but on special occasions Allah has revealed them in human form, such as when Gabriel appeared to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in human form several times.

Innumerable Angels: The number of angels is very large; only Allah knows their exact number. The Hadith states that seventy thousand angels come to Bait al-Ma’mur (the Kaaba of angels in the heavens) every day for worship, and then their turn will not come again until the Day of Judgment. There are various types of relationships between humans and angels. Angels not only convey Allah’s messages to humans but also perform important tasks such as protecting them, accepting prayers, and monitoring deeds.

1. Revelation and Messaging

Angels are sent to convey Allah’s messages to the prophets (peace be upon them). Hazrat Gabriel (peace be upon him) is the greatest angel who brought revelation and also came to reveal the Quran to the Prophet (peace be upon him). 4 Relationships Between Humans and Angels:

2. Protection and Surveillance

Angels also protect humans. The Quran states:

“Every soul has guardian angels sent before and behind it, guarding it by Allah’s command.” (Ar-Ra’d: 11)

We do not see these angels, but they are always busy protecting us by Allah’s command.

3. Angels who record deeds (Karamaan Katabiin)

Every human being has two angels assigned to record his deeds:

“Whenever he utters a word, there is a guardian (angel) with him who writes it down.” (Q: 18)

These angels are preserving every good and bad deed, and on the Day of Judgment, people will be judged according to these deeds. 4 Relationships Between Humans and Angels:

4. The role of angels at the time of death

When the time of death comes for a person, angels come to take his soul. For the righteous, angels of mercy come who treat them gently, while for the sinners, angels of severity come. It is said in the Quran:

“If only you could see when the wrongdoers are in the throes of death and the angels spread out their hands, saying, ‘Take your souls!” (Al-An’am: 93)

Angels and Muslims’ supplications:

The angels supplicate for those who believe and strive in the way of Allah. It is narrated in the hadith that when one prays the Fajr and Asr prayers, the angels supplicate to Allah Almighty for him. (Sahih Bukhari)

Similarly, it is narrated in the hadith that the one who supplicates for his Muslim brother, the angel says:

“Amen, and the same for you.” (Sahih Muslim)

The practical relationship between man and angels:

1. Piety and good deeds

Since the angels are writing down our deeds and watching us, we should avoid bad deeds and adopt good deeds so that good deeds are recorded in our deeds.

2. Arrangement of remembrance and supplications

Angels are with those who remember Allah and supplicate for them. The one who remembers Allah in the morning and evening, the angels supplicate for good.

3. Keeping company with righteous people

Angels attend gatherings where Allah is mentioned. If we attend such gatherings, we will receive the mercy of the angels.

4. Inclination towards righteous deeds

If we want the angels to be gentle with us at the time of death, we should do good deeds and live according to the will of Allah. 4 Relationships Between Humans and Angels:
